Co-Management of Sewage Sludge and Other Organic Wastes: A Scandinavian Case Study

Wastewater and sewage sludge contain organic matter that can be valorized through conversion into energy and/or green chemicals. Moreover, resource recovery from these wastes has become the new focus of wastewater management, to develop more sustainable processes in a circular economy approach. The aim this review was analyze current management systems Scandinavia with respect recovery, combination other wastes. As anaerobic digestion (AD) found common treatment approach Scandinavia, different available municipal industrial were identified compared, evaluate potential for expanding by co-digestion. Additionally, full-scale case study co-digestion, as strategy optimization treatment, presented each country, together advanced biorefinery approaches recovery.
